France will start intercepting small boats in English Channel after British demands

France has agreed to begin stopping migrant vessels in the English Channel, following months of pressure from the United Kingdom.

The change in policy comes after the British leader sent a letter to the French leader asking him to back the plan and saying there presently "have no effective preventive measure" in the Channel.

French security forces have been authorized to stop the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their migrants, according to official confirmation.

French authorities have rarely acted to prevent the heavily loaded boats departing from the coastline because it is considered too great a danger to both officers and civilians.

"It is crucial that we implement these tactics this month... We have zero effective prevention in the Channel waters."

Currently, a French maritime police spokesperson says officers will start taking action at sea, with the aim of protecting lives.

Notably, the official ruled out the use of nets to stop boats, which had previously been suggested as a possible method to disable the propellers of the boats.

This determination to take action at all is a significant advancement, coming after a brief change towards a stricter strategy this warmer season, which ceased when the previous government official left government.

This was demonstrated in July, preceding a meeting between the UK leader and President, when authorities were observed wading into the sea to damage the sides of a boat.

Now French authorities will once more be allowed to stop boats before they collect migrant passengers from the beaches of northern France, although it's uncertain how the small boats will be stopped.

Powerful gusts are presently delaying the start of intervention operations and the people-smuggling gangs will be seeking methods to adapt to evade detection, as they have done so often in the past.

The Home Office and the Prime Minister's office have been approached for response.
